What is a Fallopian Tube?

The female reproductive system is very intriguing the way it is structured and it functions. A tiny egg from the ovary turns into a complete baby in the uterus. Mostly, no symptoms appear in the case of a blocked fallopian tube. Women find out about this condition when they are diagnosed for infertility. In the case of hydrosalpinx, pelvic pain may be experienced. Hydrosalpinx is a tubal blockage due to fluid in the tube.

What tests are done in order to diagnose a blocked fallopian tube?

There are different tests—some more effective and some less effective—to diagnose a fallopian tube. They are:

A sonohysterosalpingography. The doctor tries to find out the blockage by observing the flow of saline fluid sprayed with sterile air into the uterus with the help of a transvaginal ultrasound.

An ultrasound. This test is not very effective yet it can show some signs of a blocked fallopian tube. An enlarged tube due to hydrosalpinx can be seen in an ultrasound.

Hysterosalpingogram (HSG). The flow of a special dye is observed into the uterus with a series of x-rays.
